Middlebury College is going to install 34 solar energy trackers on campus that will produce 200,000 kilowatt hours of power a year.

Middlebury officials say AllEarth Renewables of Williston will create the small solar farm this spring on about 1½ acres of college-owned land on Route 125.

College officials say the electricity produced by the system will be equivalent to the needs one of one of its residence halls that houses nearly 240 students. It’s expected to save the college $5,000 to $10,000 annually in electricity costs.

Middlebury has solar panels on two of its buildings that were installed in 2003 and 2008, but the new project is expected to produce about 15 times more power than those panels.
