Middlebury College is planning to cut 100 positions over the next three years through attrition.

The college is facing a $9 million to $10 million shortfall in its $220 million budget. The cuts would save an estimated $5 million.

Middlebury spokeswoman Sarah Ray says no layoffs are planned.

Middlebury employs 1,455 people.

The college is expecting its endowment to lose about a quarter of its value by the end of June.

In addition to staff cuts, the college is working to reduce non-salary budget items by 5 percent in the current fiscal year.
