Middlebury College suspends vocal group over hazing

Middlebury College officials say a vocal group has been suspended for hazing, although they’re not saying what happened.

Middlebury Dean Tim Spears says the complaint against the all-male a cappella singing group Stuck in the Middle came from someone outside the organization.

The college has suspended the group, asked for its leaders to step down, and frozen its bank account.

Spears isn’t saying what the hazing entailed. He says it was conduct a reasonable person would find embarrassing and humiliating and that the acts new members were asked to perform had little to do with singing.

But he says there was no physical danger to students.
