Middlebury College President John McCardell has announced he will step down in June after more than 12 years on the job.

McCardell says he’ll stay at the college, but says he wants the college to begin a transition to new leadership.

During McCardell’s time as president, Middlebury has had a building boom, adding new and modern facilities in a bid to keep itself attractive to top students.

McCardell made his announcement today before a campus-wide meeting in Middlebury’s Mead Chapel.
