(Host) First Lady Michelle Obama’s fundraising in Vermont Thursday for her husband’s re-election could be a record-breaker.

Eric Davis is a retired political scientist from Middlebury College. He predicts Mrs. Obama will shatter previous fundraising totals.

Davis estimates Mrs. Obama could raise more than $300,000.

(Davis) "If the receipts are indeed in that range, this would be the single largest amount by any candidate in Vermont. The two previous large ones are President Obama himself – at that point he was Senator Obama as a candidate for president. And Laura Bush came to Vermont in 2004 to do a fundraiser for her husband."

(Host) Polls show Mrs. Obama is increasingly popular in Vermont. So Davis says the first lady may even bring in close to $500,000.

The first lady will hold a fundraiser at a South Burlington hotel where contributors have to pay between $50 and $500. Major donors will pay $5,000 per plate for another fundraiser in downtown Burlington.
