Norwich University is mourning the loss of a former hockey star, graduate student and employee.

(Host) Twenty-five-year Michael Serba who ended up on life support following a brutal attack in Toronto over the weekend has died of his injuries.

He was allegedly struck in the head with an unknown object, possibly a brick, early Saturday morning.

Police say the attempted murder charge against 22-year-old Nicholas Crowdis, of Toronto, is expected to be upgraded at his next court appearance, set for Monday.

Serba received his undergraduate degree this year and was taking graduate courses.

A spokesman for Norwich says he was an outstanding young man and leader, who will be greatly missed.
