Memorial Auditorium Damaged In Weekend Drinking Party

An investigation is under way into reports of damage to the Burlington city-owned Memorial Auditorium following a weekend party.  And at least 16 party-goers were cited by police on allegations of alcohol-related violations.

The "Barstool Blackout Tour" party attracted about 2,500 people on Friday. The parks and recreation department approved the party’s permit to use the building.

The Burlington Free Press reports Mayor Miro Weinberger said the city was "in error" this spring when it approved the permit for the 18-and-over dance party.

The mayor’s assistant says no formal application process has been in place for booking events at the auditorium for years.

Jesse Bridges, who just took over as head of the parks department, will reportedly review all future applications and begin formulating a protocol for city-sanctioned events.
