The Vermont Medical Practice Board says a former Burlington eye doctor whose license was suspended five years ago for allegedly performing unneeded procedures can go back to work.
In a decision issued on Monday, the board said Dr. David Chase would have to take a college course in ethics and patient communication. He would also be required to have another ophthalmologist monitor his practice for a year.
Chase closed his 35-year practice in 2003 after his license was suspended. He was later cleared of criminal charges.
Chase’s lawyer Eric Miller says the board’s decision shows how badly the state overreacted.
Miller says Chase is not planning to resume his practice.
