Fighter jets from the Massachusetts Air National Guard are likely to be seen and heard in the skies over southern Vermont and New Hampshire during upcoming training exercises.

The first is set for Wednesday from about 9 a.m. to noon, and will involve the jets from an air base in Westfield, Mass., intercepting other aircraft.

The training exercises are geared to pilots developing skills in intercepting unknown aircraft, responding to hijackings and taking other defensive actions.

Additional exercises in the same areas are set for the next three Wednesdays, March 13, 20 and 27.
