The Lake Champlain Maritime Museum could open a branch in the defunct Moran power plant on the Burlington waterfront.

City officials say the museum could become the third tenant in a project to redevelop the lakeside plant.

The Burlington Free Press says the City Council’s Parks, Arts and Culture Committee recommends that Mayor Bob Kiss and the Community and Economic Development Office be given authority to negotiate with the museum.

Maritime Museum Executive Director Art Cohn says the Burlington location would let the museum to share stories with the public based on decades of research into the history of Lake Champlain. The Maritime Museum’s main campus in Ferrisburgh would not be affected.
