Vermont Secretary of State Deb Markowitz says voting has been going smoothly today at the polls across the state.

Markowitz says there were some icy roads this morning, but the weather hasn’t kept people away from the polls.

She says voter turnout was heavy this morning.

Most of the statewide attention today is focused on the Democratic presidential primary.

Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are vying for the nomination.

Volunteers for the two candidates are waving signs on street corners, making last-minute ‘get out the vote’ calls, and giving voters rides to the polls.

After the polls close tonight at 7:00, Vermont Public Radio will bring you coverage of the day’s decisions-from the primary vote, to hometown issues. That’s VPR’s ‘Town Meeting Report’, tonight at 7:00, following NPR news.
