The Valley News newspaper of West Lebanon, N.H., has a new publisher.

The paper that serves the upper Connecticut River valley of New Hampshire and Vermont says in Tuesday’s edition that 51-year-old Mark Travis of Canterbury is taking over as publisher at the paper where he held his first newspaper job.

Travis spent 22 of his 28 years in journalism at the Concord Monitor.

Travis is succeeding John Kuhns, who is retiring after 15 years leading the newspaper.

Kuhns will stay on as chairman of the Board of Directors of Newspapers of New England Inc., the private family-controlled company that owns the Valley News, Concord Monitor and six other publications.

Travis says he plans to broaden the offerings of the Valley News, both in print and on the Web.
