Maple producers asked to donate syrup to troops

Vermont maple syrup producers are being asked to donate a gallon of their product for U.S. troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Vermont Maple Sugar Makers Association will repackage the syrup as part of Operation Vermont Maple Sweetness.

Last year, the third of the operation, about 900 gallons of syrup was donated.

Dakin Farm in Ferrisburgh donated time and facilities to repackage the syrup into pint bottles.

The syrup will go to all service members, not just those from Vermont.
