A Manhattan lawyer and son-in-law of the late President Richard Nixon is the new leader of the New York Republicans.

Edward Cox was named state GOP chairman at state committee meeting in Albany on Tuesday. Cox succeeds Joseph Mondello of Nassau County.

Cox is married to the late President Richard Nixon’s daughter, Tricia.

Out of power and bruised after a series of defeats, the party is looking to make some gains in elections next year. New York Republicans have not held a single statewide post since Gov. George Pataki left office at the end of 2005.
