Manchester residents are opting to decide most Town Meeting Day issues the old fashioned way: from the floor during the open meeting.

During the town’s floor meeting on Saturday, voters defeated by a margin of better than two to one an effort to have all town issues decided by the all-day voting practice known as Australian ballot.

Many Vermont communities have abandoned the old fashioned Town Meeting Day practice of deciding issues in an open meeting in favor of Australian ballot.

In Manchester, most municipal questions, including the town’s budget and funding appropriations, are still voted from the floor.
