Manchester urges change to state education funding system

The Manchester Select Board wants the Legislature to change the way the state of Vermont funds education.

Last week, the Manchester board approved a resolution that calls for changing the education funding system.

But officials aren’t sure what the answer is.

Manchester is one of the Vermont communities that sends more tax money to the state for local education than it receives back from the state.

Select Board Vice chairman Wayne Bell says the solution is probably a combination of local and state control of education.
