A man who allegedly threw lye all over his estranged wife in a domestic assault in Thetford has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Fifty-two-year-old Herbert Rodgers of White River Junction was ordered held without bail yesterday pending an investigation that could lead to more charges.

Police say the victim, 39-year-old Carmen Tarleton, was in critical condition yesterday at a Boston hospital with chemical burns, a broken arm and broken eye socket.

According to an affidavit, Rodgers, who had been married to Tarleton for nine years but was in the process of getting a divorce, went to her home because he believed she was seeing another man. But when he did not find a man at the house, he told police that he lost it.
