The mother of the Stowe woman murdered more than 16 years ago says she thinks her daughter has had her day in court.

Ann Scoville of Canandaigua, New York, made the comments yesterday after a jury had convicted 61-year-old Howard Godfrey of Kirby of raping and killing her daughter.

The 28-year-old Patricia Scoville was killed in October 1991, three weeks after moving to Vermont from Boston.

Prosecutors say Godfrey came upon Scoville as she sat near the scenic Moss Glen Falls waterfalls in Stowe and clubbed her in the back of the head, then raping and killing her.

The jury deliberated yesterday for less than two hours after hearing five days of testimony.

Godfrey was convicted of aggravated murder, which carries an automatic sentence of life without parole.
