The Maine Public Utilities Commission is scheduled to begin deliberations today on a proposal by FairPoint Communications to buy Verizon’s landline telephone operations in northern New England for $2.7 billion.
To go forward the deal must also be approved by regulators in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.
Representatives from FairPoint, Verizon, and other parties have held closed-door meetings in the past week in an effort to reach a settlement that is agreeable to all.
