A Lyndonville metalworking company is reducing its workforce by 27 people as part of a series of global cutbacks by its parent company.

Officials say eight salaried workers at Kennametal Inc. lost their jobs on Monday and 19 additional layoffs are expected before the end of the month.

A spokeswoman at Kennametal’s Pennsylvania headquarters says the company is reducing its global work force by 1,200 during the next several months.

Christina Reitano says the 19 expected to be laid off in Lyndonville over the next several weeks could be recalled.

Kennametal says the job cuts are caused by a global decline in industrial production.

Kennametal employs about 14,000 people across the world with about 200 in Lyndonville.
