Lyndon State students help state clear roads

Meteorology students at Lyndon State College are getting some real life experience.

This winter the Vermont Agency of Transportation used their e-mailed forecasts to manage road conditions during storms.

Forecasts that estimate the time and type of precipitation help the state determine when to get plows and salt trucks out on the roads.

The Transportation Agency also relies on forecasts from the National Weather Service and private commercial services.

Lyndon State used to monitor just the Northeast Kingdom but recently expanded its forecasts to cover the entire state most of the winter.
