Lunenburg printer closes, costing 21 jobs

Foreign competition and a lack of capital to upgrade equipment are forcing an award-winning book design and printing firm in Lunenburg to close its doors and lay off 21 workers.

Warren Bingham, managing director and CEO of the Stinehour Press, notified workers of the decision yesterday morning. He says the company would have to invest $3 million in new digital technology to remain competitive, something it can’t do.

Described by The Washington Post as "the premier book printer in the world,” the Stinehour Press had a client list that included many prestigious art museums and university presses.

The company says it will help workers try to find new employment.
