Steve Howard began his legislative career in the Vermont House the same year he graduated from college, in 1993. The Vermont native represented Rutland Town for three terms, and became state Democratic Party Chair in 1995.

Howard then left the Statehouse, to pursue work as a grassroots organizer, running a PR business that took on clients like a tenants’ organization in Brattleboro, NARAL-VT
and the national Coalition Against Bigger Trucks.

Since 2005 he’s been back in the Vermont House, this time representing Rutland City. And now he’s looking for a new challenge: securing the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor.

He spoke with VPR’s Jane Lindholm about his candidacy.
