The longtime director of a Vermont fairground is calling it quits.

David Grimm plans to step down next year from his job as director of the Champlain Valley Exposition, in Essex, which got its start in 1922 as an agricultural fair.

Under the 61-year-old Grimm’s tenure, it has grown from a late-summer fair into a year-round venue for concerts and other events. It now hosts about 300 days’ worth of events each year.

This year’s fair runs from Aug. 27 to Sept. 5.

Expo Board President Matt Stevens tells the Burlington Free Press that Grimm did a tremendous job turning the Expo into a multi-use venue.
