A Vermont Farm Bureau official testified on Tuesday that a recent state Supreme Court decision is a very serious threat to Vermont agriculture. Art Menut told the House Agriculture Committee that a better balance needs to be struck between the rights of farmers to grow their business, and the rights of neighbors not to be plagued by health threats and other nuisances.

The committee has been taking testimony on Vermont’s 23-year-old “right-to-farm” law. Menut and other supporters argue that the law needs to be revisited due to changes in agricultural practices.
