State lawmakers have set aside $50,000 to help Rutland battle its drug problem but in a tight budget year, the funding’s prospects are unclear.
Last week, the House Appropriations Committee unanimously approved a spending bill that includes $50,000 to pay for police overtime to thwart drug activity.
But some lawmakers worry that the funding won’t survive scrutiny by the House and Senate.
The proposed funding is about $25,000 to $30,000 more than the city receives from the state each year.
The city applies for police assistance funding from the state annually and has received as much as $60,000 in the past. Rutland Mayor Christopher Louras says the state funding has dropped to about $20,000 a year.
