Some high-ranking Vermont state officials are breathing easier after enduring an unexpected delay- they got stuck in an elevator.
Three legislative committee chairs and the director of the Legislature’s Joint Fiscal Office were among 10 people who found themselves in the malfunctioning elevator for about 15 minutes Tuesday.
After leaving a meeting with Gov. Peter Shumlin, they boarded an elevator in the Pavilion office building that dropped a few inches from the fifth floor and then stopped cold, with its doors slightly ajar.
They were freed when Montpelier firefighters managed to get the doors open, and then they took the stairs down to the lobby.
