A committee of the Vermont Legislature is recommending that Judge Mark Keller not be given another six-year term on the bench.

The Judicial Retention Committee voted 6 to 2 yesterday against Keller’s retention after hearing that Keller is known for confrontational courtroom behavior that some members of the committee found unacceptable.

Keller is currently sitting in Franklin County where he hears cases in the criminal, family and civil courts.

Keller was the only one of 15 judges under review this year who the committee did not recommend for retention.

The Burlington Free Press says the full House and Senate will vote March 30 on the judges up for retention. Lawmakers are not bound by the committee’s recommendation.
