Vermont U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy will lead the questioning today when Attorney General Alberto Gonzales appears before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Leahy, the Democrat who chairs the committee, will join his colleagues in questioning Gonzales about the firings late last year of eight federal prosecutors.
No allegations of illegality have surfaced in the probe into the firings so far, but Senators want to question the attorney general about his shifting explanations of the firings.
Gonzales originally was scheduled to testify on Tuesday, but the appearance was postponed because of the shootings at Virginia Tech.
