Rutland’s drug problems have caught the attention of Senator Patrick Leahy. And soon, his colleagues will be hearing about them.

Later this month, Leahy will bring the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee to Rutland to learn about the city’s ongoing struggles with drugs and violent crime.

Leahy and Republican Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania will hear testimony from seven speakers at the March 24th event.

Scheduled to testify are Congressman Peter Welch, Rutland’s mayor and police chief, state Public Safety Commissioner Tom Tremblay and Hal Colston, director of NeighborKeepers, a Chittenden County-based organization that helps families in need.
