Vermont’s Senators are weighing in on President Barack Obama’s jobs address to Congress last night on job creation.

Senator Patrick Leahy says he supports the outlines of the president’s job creation program. But Leahy says jobs in Vermont depend on storm recovery, and an effective jobs program starts with strong and effective efforts to repair, recover and rebuild.

Leahy says Vermont’s top jobs priority is securing federal help for that recovery.

Senator Bernie Sanders says he agrees with the president that rebuilding infrastructure, modernizing schools and rehiring teachers and emergency responders should be a priority.

But Sanders says he will be looking into whether the president’s plan puts too much emphasis on tax breaks as opposed to direct investment.
