U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy says he was drawn to Batman’s approach to crime-fighting because the Caped Crusader had no superpowers and used his intelligence.

Leahy went to see the new Batman film in Williston on Sunday night, which got its first public showing in Vermont. Leahy, a lifelong fan of Batman, has a cameo appearance in "The Dark Knight Rises."

The Democratic senator only would tell the Burlington Free Press that he did not reprise his role as "Gentleman at Party." That’s his previous cameo in "The Dark Knight," released in 2007.

More than 300 people attended the screening, which was expected to raise about $125,000 for the Echo Center in Burlington and the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Montpelier, where a younger Leahy once read Batman comics.
