GE Healthcare in South Burlington, one of Vermont’s biggest employers, is laying off workers.

GE Healthcare spokesman Brian McKaig won’t say how many jobs are being cut, but he says the layoffs and other cost-cutting moves began last month and aren’t finished.

State officials say they weren’t notified about the layoffs and have no information about them.

McKaig says GE Healthcare – which employs 47,000 people worldwide – has no plans to close its South Burlington operation.
