An environmental lawyer working to reorganize the Agency of Natural Resources will become the next commissioner of the Department of Environmental Conservation.

The appointment of Laura Pelosi was announced Tuesday by Natural Resources Secretary George Crombie.

As commissioner, Pelosi will lead the agency’s environmental regulatory, permitting, compliance and assistance efforts.

She will also administer a number of voluntary pollution and waste reduction programs designed to protect the Vermont environment.

Pelosi is replacing former Commissioner Jeff Wennberg, who resigned in August.
