Vermont lawmakers are considering a bill that would establish a state office to enforce public records laws.

The bill, introduced by state Rep. Donna Sweaney, would establish a government transparency office under the Vermont Secretary of State to take complaints about violations of the state public records act.

The House Government Operations Committee will take testimony on the bill today from state government lawyers, Secretary of State Jim Condos, the head of the Vermont Press Association and the executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union’s Vermont chapter.
