Lawmakers To Vote On Judicial Retention

All five Vermont Supreme Court justices and nine trial judges face votes by a joint assembly of the Vermont Legislature to see whether they’ll keep their jobs for another six years.

All 14 jurists are expected to be retained in today’s voting. The only judge not recommended for retention was Mark Keller, who withdrew his name from consideration for another term.

While some states elect judges and others give lifetime appointments, Vermont takes a middle course, with judges being appointed by the governor and then coming up for review by lawmakers every six years.
