Committees of the Vermont House and Senate are meeting to hear from employers from around the state on how to generate more jobs.

The Senate Economic Development Committee and House Commerce Committee are to play host Thursday to at least 14 officials from companies around Vermont about what the state can do to improve the economy.

The jobs forum has been in the planning stages for weeks, and was a key early promise of House Speaker Shap Smith and Senate President Peter Shumlin.

Governor Jim Douglas also has made job creation a top agenda item.

The session is set to begin at 9:30 this morning in the House chamber at the Statehouse in Montpelier.
