Lawmakers, Advocates To Introduce Stun Gun Bill

A group of lawmakers and some advocacy groups are trying to create new rules to govern police use of stun guns.

They planned a news conference today to unveil a bill that would set up statewide training and rules.

The effort follows the death last year of Macadam Mason. He was a Thetford man who died of a heart attack after a state trooper hit him with a Taser.

Attorney General Bill Sorrell and the Orange County state’s attorney announced last month that the use of a Taser in the Mason case was justified.

They say Mason was distraught and failed to comply with orders and made threatening movements toward the trooper.
