Congress’ failure to adopt climate change legislation, the Gulf oil spill and the nation’s first greenhouse gas rules top a list from the Vermont Law School of the country’s 10 most critical environmental issues of 2010.

The list, which was released today, outlines regulatory and legislative issues of concern in 2010 and what might happen in 2011.

Also on the list: the survival of California’s climate law, regulatory approval for the country’s first offshore wind project off the shores of Cape Cod, and new solar projects planned for the Southwest.

Vermont Law School Dean Jeff Shields says the country can continue its shortsighted addiction to fossil fuels or adopt innovative, healthier, more sustainable practices.
