A Vermont ferry service that shuttles cyclists and their bikes across part of Lake Champlain has been canceled for the season.
Officials say flood damage to the causeway is the reason the ferry will not be running between Colchester and South Hero this year. The service provides a link between Burlington and South Hero for those using the Island Line Trail.
But advocates say a new fundraising effort will be launched for the Lake Champlain-side trail.
A "Save the Causeway Soiree" will kick off the fundraising on Thursday evening at the Snow Farm Winery in South Hero.
