The town of Killington is pressing forward with plans to leave Vermont and join New Hampshire. Killington officials plan to present draft legislation to New Hampshire Governor Craig Benson next week.

Killington residents approved a plan on Town Meeting Day to secede from Vermont and become part of New Hampshire. They’re unhappy with Vermont’s system of financing education, which raised their property taxes several years ago.

Killington’s secession must be approved by lawmakers in both states and by Congress.
