Killington Debates Whether To Expand Select Board

It’s a perpetual debate for Vermonters: What is the best practice for managing their towns?

In Killington, town officials are once again debating whether to expand the Select Board from three to five members.

Select Board member Chris Bianchi says Killington may be a small town but it operates like a big one due to its economy and tourism industry.

So a year after voters denied a similar proposal, Bianchi wants to let them decide again whether to add additional members to the Select Board.

Bianchi says having more eyes reviewing town business would stabilize local government by preventing high turnover.

But opponents argue the additions are unnecessary because Killington has a Town Manager.

And they say expanding the Select Board to five members would polarize local government issues.
