A judge who resigned after a legislative panel opted not to recommend his reappointment is going to stay on the bench until a successor can be named.

Judge Mark Keller’s six-year-term expires April 1, but Administrative Judge Amy Davenport told lawmakers he is eligible to continue until his replacement is named.

Last week, the Legislature’s Judicial Retention Committee voted to recommend that the full House and Senate reject Keller’s request for another term. The next day, Keller withdrew his name from consideration.

In voting against his retention, the majority of members on the committee cited Keller’s courtroom demeanor as a reason for not voting for him.

The Burlington Free Press says Keller’s position will be the next judicial vacancy that will be filled.
