A Chittenden County Superior Court jury is to resume deliberations on Friday in a civil trial over molestation by a Catholic priest.

On Thursday afternoon the seven-woman, five-man jury told the judge it been discussed one point for several hours without agreement.

The judge urged the jury to continue deliberating, but then told jurors they could quit for the day at about 4:30 p.m.

The former altar boy who filed the suit claims the Diocese of Burlington failed to protect him from the Rev. Edward Paquette, who fondled him 20 to 25 times at Christ the King Church in Burlington from 1976 to 1978.

The diocese doesn’t dispute that the molestation occurred.
