Jeffords says Bush is ignoring domestic issues

(Host) Senator James Jeffords on Wednesday urged President Bush to pay more attention to the pressing domestic issues facing the country.

Speaking on the Senate floor, Jeffords said the president is preoccupied with a possible war against Iraq and doesn’t want to discuss key educational, economic or environmental issues:

(Jeffords) “Mr. President is this the best we can do? Of course not. We can do better, we must do better. Because American families deserve better and they deserve better from the president. In talking about one thing only, the president is forgetting many others. And so today I call on the president to engage this nation on this forgotten agenda.”

(Host) Jeffords says he’s concerned that the Bush administration is moving backward not forward on the issue of global warming and that as many as 30,000 premature deaths can be attributed to pollution from power plants.
