Former New Hampshire Governor Jeanne Shaheen says she’s making another run for U.S. Senate to make the government work for New Hampshire.
In seeking the Democratic nomination, the 60-year-old Shaheen is setting herself up for a potential rematch against Republican Senator John Sununu, who defeated her in 2002 by 5 percentage points.
Then, support for invading Iraq was at a high. Since 2002, anti-war sentiment has helped reshape New Hampshire’s political landscape, with Democrats winning control of the state’s two House seats, the governor’s office and state Legislature in 2006.
Shaheen is among a small group of prominent Democrats whom party officials have been recruiting for Senate races. National Democrats have made Sununu a top target for 2008 and have run ads criticizing his support for the war in Iraq.
