Interview: Vermonter Competes in Olympic Kayaking

Opening ceremonies for the 2004 Olympics begin in Athens, Greece tonight, and while Vermont athletes are no strangers to the Winter Games, it is somewhat unusual to see Olympic hopefuls from the Green Mountain State compete on the summer stage for top world honors.

One Vermonter who is dreaming of bringing home gold is 23-year old Brett Heyl of Norwich, who’s competing in the mens’ kayak slalom race.

I spoke with Brett from the Olympic village in Athens this week, and asked him to describe the kayak competition for folks who may not be familiar with the sport…
