(Host) A new comic novel by Vermont author Robert Cohen gives us two male midlife crises for the price of one.

In the book Amateur Barbarians, Teddy Hastings is a 53 year old middle school principal.   After a brush with the law,  he’s forced to  take a sabbatical,  and he falls into a spiral of mid-life panic.

Oren Pierce is a 30ish grad student who takes on the role of acting principal. After living a life adrift, he finds himself inexplicably attracted to the ordinary.

For both men, the grass remains perpetually greener on the other side, and their relentless introspection brings them no closer to the answers they’re looking for.

Robert Cohen teaches at Middlebury College, and joins us in our Colchester studios.
