Interview: UVM poet wins emerging writer award

South Burlington poet and assistant professor of English at the University of Vermont Major Jackson has received a Whiting Writer’s Award, one of ten recipients selected as an emerging writer of exceptional talent and promise.

Jackson was the only poet honored among the winners this year, and joins an impressive group of writers honored by the foundation since 1985 that includes Jonathan Franzen, Alice McDermott, and Tony Kushner.
