Within the town of Rockingham, the tiny village of Saxtons River – population about 500 – will celebrate its 100th anniversary next year. And it looks like residents will be doing so as an incorporated village – not as part of a proposed unified town that would be created by a merger with Rockingham and the village of Bellows Falls.
Talk of the merger, or unification, as some supporters call it, has resurfaced ten years after the idea was soundly defeated by people in all three municipalities. Earlier this week Saxtons River trustees voted once more not to join the merger effort. Mitch Wertlieb tals with Louise Luring, chair of the Saxtons River Board of Trustees.
